The Next Conference of the International Association of Judicial Independence and World Peace

From 4 June until 6 June, 2015, the International Association of Judicial Independence and World Peace will hold the Conference in Bologna and Milan. The organizers of the Conference are the University of Bologna, Bocconi University of Milan, University of Cambridge Centre of Public Law (UK), Hebrew University of Jerusalem Faculty of law, Sacher Institute (Israel).

 

The main theme of the Conference is Top Courts in a globalized Legal Culture: The Use of Foreign and Transnational Precedents by National Supreme Courts.

Other Topics to be discussed: Appeal Courts, Impact of International Law on Domestic Law, Other Issues Related to Judicial Independence, Discussion of Global Judicial Ethics and Continued discussion on The Mt Scopus International Standards of Judicial Independence.

 

The International Association of Judicial Independence and World Peace www.jiwp.org  was founded in 1982 and is one of the most reputed international organizations, which unites distinguished academics, practising lawyers, competent experts in law and leading judges around the world. The work of the Association is focused on drafting international standards of judicial independence, supporting culture of judicial independence in all states, promoting the ideals of peace, democracy, freedom and liberty by strengthening and maintaining judicial independence in all its aspects.

 

The Association participated in drafting a number of international documents which are now recognized in many jurisdictions of the world: The New Delhi Minimum Code of Judicial Independence (in cooperation with the International Bar Association, New Delhi, 1982),The Montreal Declaration on the Independence of Justice (Montreal, 1983) and The Mt Scopus International Standards of Judicial independence .

The Association‘s outstanding contribution to the advancement of judicial Independence was evidenced by the Candidacy of the Association for Nobel peace prize in 2013. The Association was honoured with the right to claim such prize for conducting the International Project on Judicial Independence, which is the result of its 30 years of effort.

 

Previous Conferences in the International Project of Judicial independence

The last round of conferences of the International Project of Judicial independence were held in Jerusalem 2007, Vaduz 2007, Jerusalem 2008, Krakow 2008, Cambridge 2009, Salt Lake City 2010, Vienna 2011, Hong Kong 2012, Ghent 2012 ,San Diego 2013, Moscow 2014, and Osnabruek 2014.
